Credit

Credit Bureau

An organisation that compiles your credit history and produces your credit report. In Canada: Equifax and TransUnion.

Equifax Canada and TransUnion Canada are the two consumer credit bureaus operating in Canada. They collect data from your lenders, credit-card issuers, utilities, and collection agencies, then assemble it into a credit report and a credit score. When a mortgage agent pulls your credit, they typically request both bureaus because the same trade lines may show different statuses. You're entitled to a free credit report from each bureau every year — see the bureau websites or the Privacy Commissioner's guidance. For full details on how Brkrr handles any information shared during the matching process, see our Privacy Policy.
